Ecole Centrale Nantes

Created more than 90 years ago, Ecole Centrale Nantes (ECN) trains versatile engineers to a very high scientific and technical level. A member of the Ecoles Centrales Group (Lille, Lyon, Marseille, Nantes and Paris), Centrale Nantes delivers a teaching programme of the highest quality to rigorously selected students. Our extensive links with the world’s top universities open up international study and research opportunities. The school belongs to one of the most exclusive networks, which is ever expanding, particularly towards India, Japan, Brazil and Russia. With the support of numerous strong institutional and industrial partnerships Centrale Nantes produces worldclass academic and applied research.

The Thermodynamique des Systemes Moteurs (TSM) research team focus on system modelling of internal combustion engines, especially in the fields of combustion, pollutant emissions, gas dynamics and turbomachineries. It works on different simulation softwares and has significant experimental facilities including a vehicle test bench, seven engine test benches (incl. 3 dynamic test benches) and two turbochargers test benches. It is now composed of 3 professors, 2 associate professors, 12 technical staff (engineers and technicians) and also 12 PhD students.

In the project, ECN will contribute to WP2. ECN will perform system modelling of soot formation designed for ECU calibration and for integration of real-time control strategies in engine design processes or ECUs. Several models levels will be created to fit all these needs:

– Mathematics models based on tables

– Mean Value Engine Models

– High Frequency models

To develop and validate the models, ECN will use data from other partners in the project.
