At the 7th European Transport Research Arena (TRA) (April 16-19, 2018, Vienna, Austria) a poster and a presentation about the dieper project have been presented by the partners.
The presentation called “Fuel Consumption improvement of a LCV diesel engine by conventional measures, targeting post Euro 6 emission compliance” was presented by Mr Konstantinos Priftis, FPT Motorenforschung AG in a scientific session called “Technologies for Clean, Efficient and Safe Vehicles”. In this session there was also a presentation presented by Ludwig Buergler (REWARD project) regarding “Vehicle Demonstration of Performance and Economy of a Comphrehensive B/C class Diesel Engine and Aftertreatment System Approach for Emissions beyond Euro 6”. REWARD also worked on fuel consumption reduction (CO2).
The underlying paper to the dieper presentation by Mr Pfriftis with the same name was co-authored by the dieper partners FPT, Ricardo UK Ltd and Johnson Matthey. It focused on fuel consumption reduction (CO2) and emission reduction (NOx, particulates)
Abstract dieper presentation TRA2018:
Within the EU funded Horizon 2020 “dieper” project (Diesel engine efficiency improvement and Particulate number Reduction), the authors are working to develop a Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) demonstrator to enable emissions of 50% of Euro 6 limits and a >80% reduction in particulate numbers including the 10-23nm range. A fuel economy improvement of >5% is also required. The “dieper” project is yet in an initial phase. The paper will outline aspects of a Euro 6b compliant vehicle in the near-future testing environment (RDE, WLTP) with post Euro 6 emissions limits (2020). The baseline vehicle was measured at project start (2017) and the improved vehicle will be measured again the end of the project (2019) by an independent institution (Virtuelles Fahrzeug in Graz, ViF). The paper describes the baseline situation and improvement steps to reach the targets. Hybridization and electrification are excluded from this project and could be added in a further step to meet expect 2025 CO2 regulations.
